Is Zendaya's Dune 2 Style a Secret Tryout for the Next Big Met Gala Show?
Zendaya's 2024 Dune: Part Two press-tour looks were real. The secret Met Gala audition is not—but the fashion-world what-if has plenty of room to roam.

The real runway
Zendaya's Dune: Part Two press-tour fashion was not an internet invention. In 2024, she and longtime stylist Law Roach built a series of futuristic, film-inspired looks, including a vintage Thierry Mugler robot suit. The outfits made the press tour a fashion story as well as a movie promotion.
That is the fact. The secret tryout for a Zendaya-themed Met Gala is not.
The what-if
What if the Met Gala decided that one film press tour was so committed to its visual world that it deserved an entire museum? In this fictional edition, guests arrive in stillsuits, the staircase becomes a dune ridge, and the coat check has a sand-removal station.
The dress code reads: “Come as a character, a planet, or an emergency water-conservation device.” The museum gift shop sells a worm-shaped tape measure. Someone has to explain why their outfit is “in conversation with spice,” and the answer is always “because the stylist said so.”
It would be a spectacularly impractical evening. The red carpet would need a wind machine, the elevators would be full of sculptural capes, and at least one guest would mistake the interactive sand installation for a place to park.
What we can actually say
The real Costume Institute presents exhibitions about fashion and its contexts. Zendaya's Dune-inspired wardrobe was created for a film press tour. No evidence supports the idea that the looks were a secret audition or that a Dune-themed Met Gala show was planned.
The joke works without turning a playful theory into reporting. Zendaya and Roach made the fashion memorable; the imaginary gala is just where our speculation takes the wormhole.
